Week 2 learning

Hi Nursery!
I hope you are having lots of fun with your grown ups at home, I am missing you all lots and cannot wait to hear all about your super home learning when we are back at school.
Lots of love, Miss Woods 👩

Mr Bear and Jenny Jigsaw have been busy thinking of some challenges to send to you this week! 🌈

Monday:
Phonics – Warm up by singing our favourite alphabet song on YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BELlZKpi1Zs
Ask your grown-ups to pause the song at the end when all of the images are shown. Can you find the picture which starts with the first letter of your name? Have a competition with your grown-up at naming as many items as you can think of which begin with that sound – Good luck children, I know you will beat the grown-ups!

Challenge: Can you practise writing the sounds in your name? If you can do this, can you write a list of the objects that you named with your grown-up?

Maths – Warm up with Big Walrus and count all the way to 20! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0Ajq682yrA
Your task today is to choose an action such as jumping, clapping or hopping – when you have chosen your action, can you ask your grown-up to show you a number card from your pack. Can you shout out the number and then do that many jumps, claps or hops? You could even show your grown-up a number and get them involved too! Repeat this activity until you can jump no more J

Challenge: Can you have a go at putting the number cards you have used in order?

Tuesday:
Phonics – Today your challenge is to start with a game of ‘Giggling grapheme’ on phonics play - https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/member-only/GrabAGigglingGrapheme.html Listen carefully to the sound that you need to choose and find this on one of the aliens!

Challenge: Ask your grown-up to choose a sound and see how many objects around your house that you can find beginning with that sound. Extension: record the sounds you can hear in the words of the objects you find.

Maths -  Join in with singing our favourite shape song again with Big Walrus https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guNdJ5MtX1A.
Can you challenge yourself to draw each of the shapes that you have sung about in the song?

Challenge: Can you name any items that you know are these shapes? For example, square – cushion, rectangle – door and so on.

Wednesday:
Phonics - log on to phonicsplay.co.uk. Play flashcard speed sounds (phase 2) and practise saying all of the sounds . How many could you remember? Did you beat your time from last week?

Challenge: Can you practise saying and writing i, n, m, d. Can you draw a picture of something which begins with these sounds?

Maths – Warm up again with Big Walrus and count all the way to 20! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0Ajq682yrA
Missing number challenge – Today, ask your grown-ups to place the number cards in your pack out on the floor/table. Can you begin by putting these numbers in order from 1-5 or 1-10? When you have done this, ask your grown-up to remove one of the number cards whilst you close your eyes! Open your eyes and try to guess the number that your grown-up has removed!

Challenge: Can you write these numerals in the correct order?

Thursday:
Phonics –  Using your log in for Oxford Owl, choose a new story to read. Look at the front cover and guess what you think might happen in the story. Can you spot any letter sounds that you know in the title?
Can you spot the characters in the story, how might they be feeling/why?

Challenge: Can you recall the events that happened in the story? Tell your grown-up your favourite part of the story – you could even draw a picture to show your favourite part if you want to!

Maths -  Can you go on a hunt around your house for different objects ready to sort. When you have collected lots of objects – you can decide whether you will sort your objects by colour or by size, for example – putting all of the red objects together or placing all of the large items together and so on. Don’t forget to use the vocabulary we learnt in Nursery: large/big/huge, medium, small/little/tiny.

Challenge: Count the number of objects you have in each of your groups and add them altogether.

Fun Fridays:
We know how much Nursery love our fun and fitness Fridays so we know you will love Friday challenges:

PE time:
Go onto YouTube and search for our favourite brain gym song ‘Banana, banana, meatballs’ and show your grown-ups your super moves!

Baking Friday:
Your challenge is to work with your grown-up to prepare a meal for your family. See if you can use words like ‘chop, stir, slice, mix’ whilst preparing your meal. I can’t wait to hear what you have been cooking when we are back at school!
