Hi
again Nursery!
I hope
you are all staying safe and making great green choices for your grown-ups at
home. Mrs Hancock, Mrs Ellender, Mrs Howells and I are missing you terribly and
we cannot wait to see you all again!
But
until then, have lots of fun and use your super brainboxes to tackle your
challenges for this week.
Mr Bear
and Jenny Jigsaw are really pleased that you have been trying really hard to
complete the challenges they have been sending. They have had to work really
hard to think of some even trickier challenges to send to you this week!
Here
are your learning challenges for the week:
Each day, you could start the day by singing the ‘Days
of the week’ song which we do every day in school. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtQcnZ2JWsY
You could also talk to your grown-ups about the
weather and if you are feeling up to a super challenge – name the day that it
was yesterday and the day it will be tomorrow!
Monday:
Phonics –
Warm up by singing the ‘Jolly jingles’ song on YouTube (you don’t have to sing
them all in one go, you could sing a few each day)- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euxN7LGOoLc
Today, you are
going to play ‘Pick a picture’ on phonics play which will help your reading
skills. https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/member-only/PictureMatch.html
Choose Phase 2 and
see if you can read the tricky words and match it to the correct picture.
Challenge: Practise writing your name
today. If you know how to do this independently, your challenge is to write
your full name and the names of other people in your house.
Maths –
Warm up with Big Walrus and count all the way to 20! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0Ajq682yrA
Your task today is
to find a stick and have a go at the activity below:
Challenge: Can you have a go at putting
the objects you have found in order from shortest to longest?
Tuesday:
Phonics – Today your challenge is to start with a game of ‘Giggling grapheme’
on phonics play https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/member-only/GrabAGigglingGrapheme.html
Listen carefully to the sound that you
need to choose and find this on one of the aliens!
Challenge: Ask your grown-up to choose a sound
and challenge yourself to write this sound on a piece of paper.
Maths - Join in with singing our favourite shape song again with Big
Walrus https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guNdJ5MtX1A.
If there
are any clouds in the sky today, you could have a go at this activity:
Challenge: Can you spot anything else
outside that makes a shape? How many sides does it have? How many corners?
Wednesday:
Phonics - log on to phonicsplay.co.uk. Play flashcard speed sounds
(phase 2) and practise saying all of the sounds . How many could you remember?
Did you beat your time from last week?
Challenge: Can you practise saying and
writing ck, e, u, r. Can you draw a picture of something which begins with
these sounds? Some of you will remember that ck is a digraph sound which comes
at the end of a word. For this sound, maybe you could draw a sock or a duck!
Maths – Warm up again with Big Walrus
and count all the way to 20! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0Ajq682yrA
Today,
your challenge is to have a go at writing your numbers from 1-5/1-10. You could
use a paintbrush and water to do this on the ground outside or you could
write/paint them onto paper instead.
Challenge: Can you find the age that you
are? How old will you be on your next birthday? Can you find that number?
Thursday:
Phonics – Using your log in for Oxford Owl, choose a new
story to read. Look at the front cover and guess what you think might happen in
the story. Can you spot any letter sounds that you know in the title?
Can
you spot the characters in the story, how might they be feeling/why?
Challenge:
Can
you recall the events that happened in the story? Tell your grown-up your
favourite part of the story – you could even draw a picture to show your
favourite part if you want to!
Maths - Can you count backwards from 10-0 and blast
off like a rocket for your warm up?
Today
you will need to find lots of socks for your challenge, but only clean ones,
not stinky ones! 🧦
Put all
of your socks into a big pile and get ready to put them into a long line whilst
counting them. How many socks can you count to?
Challenge:
Can
you pair up the socks now you have counted them? How many pairs have you got?
Fun
Fridays:
We
know how much Nursery love our fun and fitness Fridays so we know you will love
Friday challenges!
Creative time:
As you
read a story for your phonics challenge yesterday, I thought it would be a
great idea for you to have a go at making a sock puppet which you could use to
make up a story using your imagination! What will your puppet be called? What
do they like to do? What is their favourite colour?
PE
time:
Practise
throwing and catching with your grown-up this week. Find a ball and see how
many times you can throw and catch it!
If you
are wearing some sporty clothes for your PE lesson today, challenge yourself to
get dressed independently. (I wonder who can remember what independent means –
see if you can wow your grown-up and tell them!)
