Hi
everyone,
I hope
you are all enjoying this lovely sunshine and doing lots of fun things outdoors
with your grown-ups!
The
Nursery grown-ups are still missing you all lots and lots and we can’t wait to
be able to hear from you soon!
As of Monday, your grown-ups will be able to email nursery@hilltop.doncaster.sch.uk
with lots of pictures and updates of how you are doing at home. We cannot wait
to see the super fun things you have been getting up to!
But
until then, have lots of fun and use your super brainboxes to tackle your
challenges for this week.
I have
had a phone call with both Mr Bear and Jenny Jigsaw and they have been really
impressed with how you are all doing with your learning. They have been
thinking really hard of some fabulous challenges for you this week.
Here
are your learning challenges for the week:
You could begin your days by singing the ‘Days of
the week’ song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtQcnZ2JWsY
You could also talk to your grown-ups about the
weather and if you are feeling up to a super challenge – name the day that it
was yesterday and the day it will be tomorrow!
Monday:
Phonics –
Warm up by singing the ‘Jolly jingles’ song on YouTube (you don’t have to sing
them all in one go, you could sing a few each day)- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euxN7LGOoLc
Today, ask a
grown-up to play I-Spy. Gather together around six to eight objects which all
begin with different sounds. You could ask your grown-up to start the game and
say “I spy with my little eye, something beginning with…” they must choose an
item which is in your pile of objects. If you guess the item correctly, it is
your turn! Keep going until all of the items have been guessed.
Challenge: Can you think of a word to
describe each of your items. E.g. if you choose a banana, you could describe it
as yellow or curved. Try to think of a different describing word (adjective)
for each of your objects.
Maths –
Warm up with Big Walrus and count all the way to 20! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0Ajq682yrA
Your task today is to work on your positional language such as ‘behind’ ‘in front of’ ‘next to’ ‘underneath’
‘on top of’ ‘in between’
You could do this
with a chair and your favourite toy by placing your toy in areas relation to
the chair when your grown-up asks or you could work with your grown-up to put
yourself in those places. E.g. your grown-up might say to you “Stand next to
the sofa” “Go under the table” etc.
Challenge: Can you place yourself or your
toy in a place such as ‘on top of’ the chair and explain your position to your grown-up?
Tuesday:
Phonics – log on to phonicsplay.co.uk. Play flashcard
speed sounds (phase 2) and practise saying all of the sounds. How many could
you remember? Are you getting faster at naming each sound?
Challenge: Ask your grown-up to put some
flour/sugar out on a baking tray for you to have a go at forming some of the
phase 2 sounds in. It’s magic and can be re-used again and again. All you have
to do is shake the tray and the sounds will vanish.
Maths - Join in with singing our favourite shape song again with Big
Walrus https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guNdJ5MtX1A.
Your challenge
today is to collect some items from around your house. They could be tins from
the kitchen, a football from the garden, a book from your bedroom. Your grown-up
is going to ask you to predict whether you think the items that you have
collected will roll or not? Have a go at rolling the items to see if you were
correct.
Challenge: Can you describe the shapes
that did roll? What was special about them that made them roll? Were they
round? What about the shapes that didn’t roll? Were they flat?
Wednesday:
Phonics – watch Geraldine Giraffe ‘h’
on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oiu_YmW_Efk See if you can remember which items she found in her house. Can you
name them?
Now
have a hunt around your house to see what you can find that begins with h.
Challenge: Have a go at writing this sound
and if you want to challenge yourself further, have a go at saying/writing the
other sounds you can hear in the objects you find e.g. h-a-t.
Maths – Warm up again with Big Walrus
and count all the way to 20! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0Ajq682yrA
Today, your challenge is to have a go at grouping items
from around your house for example, 3 yoghurts and 1 banana. Can you work out
how many items you have altogether by counting them all? You could ask your
grown-up to add one more banana. How many items do you have altogether now? Has
the total got bigger or smaller? What if you don’t add any more items? Will the
total stay the same? You could repeat this activity with different items from
around your house or garden.
Challenge: Can you have a go at writing
the total number on a piece of paper?
Thursday:
Phonics – Using your log in for Oxford Owl, choose a new
story to read. Look at the front cover and guess what you think might happen in
the story. Can you spot any letter sounds that you know in the title?
Can
you spot the characters in the story, how might they be feeling/why?
Challenge:
Can
you recall the events that happened in the story? Tell your grown-up your
favourite part of the story – you could even draw a picture to show your
favourite part if you want to!
Maths - Can you count backwards from 10-0 and blast
off like a rocket for your warm up?
Today
you will need to find lots of items which are the same, for example,
socks/stones/spoons etc. your grown-up is going to ask you to give them an
amount. They might say “Please can you give me 3 spoons” “Can you find 6
stones?” and so on.
Challenge:
Your
grown-up could use your number cards to make this challenge trickier by showing
you a number card but not telling you the number. Can you say the number and
find that many items?
Fun
Fridays:
We
know how much Nursery love our fun and fitness Fridays so we know you will love
Friday challenges!
Creative time:
This
week, you could have a go at making super soft playdough. Click on this link –
it will take you to the recipe! Have fun.
PE
time:
Get
ready to turn yourselves into animals this week! We love to play this game in
Nursery and I hope you can remember the rules.
Your
grown-up is going to choose an animal and say “Move like an elephant/giraffe/snake”
and so on. Can you make your bodies into the shape of that animal and have a go
at moving like they would? For an elephant you could make yourself big and
stomp, stomp, stomp. You could use your arms to make a really tall neck like
the giraffe and you could slither across the ground like a snake! I can’t wait
to see some fantastic pictures of you moving like animals!
