Hi
Nursery,
I am
still missing you all lots but I am loving to see all of the wonderful
activities and learning that you have been doing at home with your grown-ups. You
are all making me very proud!
Don’t
forget to ask your grown-ups to email pictures of your learning and activities
to nursery@hilltop.doncaster.sch.uk and I can share these on the blog so your
friends can see what you have been doing too!
Mr Bear
and Jenie Jigsaw are still having fun setting you the weekly challenges – they hope
you enjoy this week’s!
Here
are your challenges for the week:
You could begin your days by singing the ‘Days of
the week’ song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtQcnZ2JWsY
You could also talk to your grown-ups about the
weather and if you are feeling up to a super challenge – name the day that it
was yesterday and the day it will be tomorrow!
Monday:
Phonics –
Warm up by singing the ‘Jolly jingles’ song on YouTube (you don’t have to sing
them all in one go, you could sing a few each day)- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euxN7LGOoLc
Today, you are
going to need some letter sounds, some objects which begin with each sound and
a plastic bottle. Look at the picture below to help your grown-ups to see how
to set this game up.
When you spin your
bottle and it lands on a sound, can you name the sound and something that
begins with that sound? It can be the item which you have put with the sound,
or something else you can think of.
Challenge: Can you form the sound as the
bottle lands on them? Challenge yourself even further and have a go at sounding
out the word such as: h a
t (you could also write each
word if you like)
Maths-
Today
your tricky challenge is to feed some hungry shape monsters! https://www.topmarks.co.uk/early-years/shape-monsters
Ask
your grown-ups to click on the link above and have a go at matching the
monsters to their shapes.
Challenge:
Can
you name each shape as it comes onto the screen? How many sides does that shape
have? How many corners?
Tuesday:
Phonics – log on to phonicsplay.co.uk. Play flashcard
speed sounds (phase 2) and practise saying all of the sounds. How many could
you remember? Are you getting faster at naming each sound?
Last week, your Tuesday challenge was to make your name on a paper
chain. Today’s challenge is similar and you will need to ask your grown up to
write your name on a piece of paper. Ask them to then cut it into single sounds
ready for you to piece back together like a jigsaw.
Challenge: Can you form each letter in your name
correctly now? If you can do this confidently, ask your grown up to challenge
you to piece together the letters in your surname.
Maths- Warm your maths brains up by singing our ‘2D shape song’ song
with our favourite character – Big Walrus: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OEbRDtCAFdU
Today you are going to have a go at making your own shape animal. You
could use pens to draw the shapes, you could use paper cut into shapes and
stick them onto paper or you could find objects to draw around which will help
you to make a shape.
Look at the pictures below to help.
Challenge: Can you count how many of each shape
you have used and write this number down?
Wednesday:
Phonics – Sing the phonics song 2 on
YouTube and see if you can spot any of the sounds in your name when they come
onto the screen - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BELlZKpi1Zs
Mr Bear and Jenie need
your help today! They have been sent some pictures and words but the words have
some sounds missing – do you think you could help them to work out the missing
sound?
_ o g
t a _
_ u n
r _ t
c o _
p _ g
_ e t
Challenge: You could choose one of the
pictures and have a go at drawing your own version and writing what it is.
Maths- Make sure you have your best
counting voices ready, Big Walrus will be checking to see if you can use your
fingers to help you count as you sing along to his song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0Ajq682yrA
We are
going to be exploring shape again and how the shape of an item or its
properties can help it to roll. Can you ask your grown-up to help you make a ‘homemade
ramp’?
Experiment
which of your toys will travel the fastest down the ramp. Which will travel the
slowest? Can you predict this before trying it out?
You
could use language such as: furthest, longest, quickest, speed, heavy and
light.
Thursday:
Phonics – Using your log in for Oxford Owl, choose a
new story to read. Look at the front cover and guess what you think might happen
in the story. Can you spot any letter sounds that you know in the title?
Can
you spot the characters in the story, how might they be feeling/why?
Challenge:
Can
you recall the events that happened in the story? Tell your grown-up your
favourite part of the story – you could even draw a picture to show your
favourite part if you want to!
Maths- Warm up your brains by choosing
either the Big Walrus or Macarena counting song!
Gather
together 10 items (more if you would like a challenge) and the same amount of
pegs. Your grown-up is going to show you any number of items and your challenge
is to attach that many pegs to either a piece of paper/cardboard/string. Practise
this until you have had a go at pegging a few different totals.
Challenge:
Have
a look at how many pegs you have secured to your paper/cardboard/string. How
many pegs would you have if one was taken away? How many would you have if you
added another peg?
Fun
Fridays:
Well
done for completing the tricky challenges for Phonics and Maths this week
Nursery – I hope you have a super fun Friday and I cannot wait until we can
share those fun times together again!
Creative time:
This
week, your challenge is to have a go at making your own wish tree. When I was
in school this week, Miss Elliott, Mrs Ellender and I had a fabulous time
making a wish tree with the children. You will need to collect some sticks to
decorate. You could wrap them in wool/string/ribbon or you could paint them –
be as creative as you like! When you have decorated your sticks, ask your grown-up
to help you make a tag to attach onto your wish tree. Each member of your
family could add a tag if they would like. On the tag, write down something
that you are excited to be able to do again or are wishing for. Some of the children
in school wished that they could see their family soon, or that they could come
back to school to see all of their friends. Don’t forget to take a picture of
your wish tree, including your wishes for me to see.
PE
time:
Today,
your PE challenge is to walk the plank. Ask your grown-up to lay out some
string or use chalks to draw a straight line on the ground outside. Your
challenge is to balance along this line using your arms to help you get from
one end to the other. Can you make it to the end without falling into the
ocean?
