Learning time!
Monday Today we are going to be super segmenters and brilliant blenders! Segmenting is the word we use to describe breaking down a word into sounds (it makes us sounds a little like a robot) and blending is the word we use to describe pushing the sounds back together to hear a whole word.
Grown ups are going to be Super segmenters. You will need to tell the children a simple instruction, the last word you will need to segment and talk like a robot.
E.G put your hands on your h-ea-d
Children, your job is to blend the sounds back together to hear the word and then complete this action. Can you do this for 10 instructions?
Tuesday
Today you will need your a phonics cards for the sounds p/b/c. Show these to the children, can the children name these sounds ? you can support by doing 'My turn, your turn' . You say the sound and ask you child to repeat it, you can make it fun by changing how you say it (high pitch, low pitch, squeeky like a mouse or deep like a monster). You will also need a selection of objects beginning with these sounds.
You can play different games. You could take it in turns to choose and object, say the word and hear the initial sounds. Can they match it to the correct sounds?
Or you could play a game of eye spy.... I spy something beginning with a 'b'. Can the children identify an object they think begins with this sound?
Support : you can say the word and exaggerate the initial sound. If children are finding this tricky from a large selection you could offer a selection of 2 object eg . a car or a ball
Challenge: extend children to hear any more sounds in these words.
Wednesday
Today you will need a baking tray, bun cases or paper circles and a selection of objects like in the picture. Your objects need to be simple words which children can recognise the sounds and blend together.
E.G peg, pen, cup,
Write the words into the bun cases or the paper circles and place in the tray. Choose an item, say what the item is. Can you hear the initial sounds e.g pen is a p. Can the children identify a word with a p sounds. You could support children by showing them a p letter shape.
Extend: can children recognise any of the other sounds in the words? can they blend them together ?
Thursday
Phonics – Using your log in for Oxford Owl, choose a new story to read. Look at the front cover and guess what you think might happen in the story. Can you spot any letter sounds that you know in the title?
Can you spot the characters in the story, how might they be feeling/why?
Fun Friday!
Today we are going to explore freezing and melting! Look at the picture below to see all of the resources you will need! Once you have frozen your eggs you could explore finding the quickest way to melt your egg surprise!
